Acme Deals: Week of 7/31

There are some great deals this week at Acme this week (I sense another “Why I Love Acme” post coming!)Don’t worry if you have a bunch of coupons expiring today (especially Proctor & Gamble)…there are FIVE inserts coming out in the paper this weekend and one of them is another Proctor & Gamble!

Note:  to maintain the “flow” of the post, the amazing Catalina deals will be at the end of this post even though the page detailing the deal was stuck between page 4 & 5

Note about the Catalina Deal:  I know that other blogs and forums talk about doing the deals based on “shelf prices” rather than sale prices.  While I know that it sometimes works using shelf price on selected items in each deal, I have always been of the opinion that the deals should be worked on the advertised prices.  While I don’t fault anyone for trying to do the deal based on shelf prices, I would prefer that any posted scenarios in the comments be based on sale prices, not shelf.  Thanks! (to see my feelings on this, check out this post and read the comments regarding Scenario #4)

  1. Jenn says:

Oh boy!! I went to ACME today so I could use all of my 7/31 expiring coupons. I had a great experience, except the cashier got upset that I got more catalinas on my second transaction. I read your article about the sale price vs. shelf price. I had no idea and kind of feel stupid for assuming it was the sale price. I used sale prices today and still did a great job. I plan on going back on Monday and I think I will still use the sale prices, but I won’t be SOOOOOOO uptight about making sure I have EXACTLY (or more) of the money I need to spend. Thanks for all the deal advice!!

  2. Mendy says:

No ACME here, but I’m waiting anxiously for your post about how many papers to buy this Sunday. I checked Coupon Tracker and it looks like a huge weekend. Can’t wait to get an expert’s opinion! :)

  3. KC says:

Thanks for all of your work, Mindi! I just got back from Acme, delighted at what I ended up with. I came up with the first three transactions from coupons that I had that were listed on your site. The last peanut butter one I read about somewhere and decided at the end that I would give it a shot and if it didn’t work, be done rolling and walk away with a bunch of PB. But it all worked super smoothly and in the end I paid just over $23 OOP and left with $20 CATS! Then I stopped at Walgreens from some $.25 Starbucks and came home happy as a clam :)

  4. Heather says:

The Motts applesauce coupon isn’t good for the Motts they have on sale. The sale applesauce is the regular and no sugar not the plus calcium. :)

  5. Jennifer Y. says:

Hi Mindi – I don’t think this advertised, but the Quaker pancake mix is 2.00 again. If you still have any 2.00/1 ips leftover from a while back – FREE!

  6. Jennifer Y. says:

Oh, and yes, the ben & jerry’s was a misprint. It’s the little cups. Good filler I guess, but the other stuff that’s 1.00 is a better deal as a filler IMO. There was a sign on the freezer door.

  7. Jennifer Y. says:

Sorry, one more! There is a .75/1 ip on the wish-bone website.

  8. Manisha says:

I’m stoked. My first round will be 13 bucks (I know I could do better, but I’m ok with 13 OOP), and then I’ll roll it one or two more times. The last roll will be used for $15 in groceries that are not on the deal including the Over the Moon Milk (for $1 each since I have coupons) and some fresh fruit.

Do the cats print out as 1 coupons for $15 or is it 3 $5 ones like they have done in the past?

  9. KC says:

The print out as three $5. It’s addicting. As of my trip this morning, I’ve spent $26.41 OOP for a total value of groceries of $330 and have $30 in CATS to keep rolling next week!

  10. Manisha says:

KC, thanks. 3 $5 ones is perfect! I’m heading there in a bit (when I get my lazy butt up from eating Chinese and watching Sex in the City), and I’m doing the deal one time just for now.

  11. Ben says:

    IP = Internet printable
    TP = Tearpad

    Transaction 1:

    Honey Nut Cheerios: 4 boxes @ $2 = $8
    Honey Kix: 4 boxes @ $2 = $8

    Chex Mix: 2 bags @ $1.67 = $3.34
    Warm Delight: 1 @ $1.67 = $1.67
    Ben & Jerrys Cup: 1 @ $1 = $1

    Total before coupons: $32.00

    Ben & Jerrys (Cat): 1 @ 1.00 = $1.00
$2.00 off for taking phone survey

    Blueberry Muffin Pop Tarts: 5 @ $1.00 = $5.00
    Lipton Pure Leaf Ice Tea: 22 @ $1.00 = $22.00

    $2 off for phone survey

    Coupon Total: $39.60

OOP: $4.84 + enough stuff to qualify for the $10 Kellogg’s Food for Fuel promo.

  12. Stacey says:

Why do I always get stuck with the cashier that doesn’t double the IP’s that say Do Not Double? And Mindi, one of your fav cashiers (Josh) now knows how to not double them.

    • Mindi Cherry says:

Yeah – I had the same thing yesterday! I was told that the cashiers got “yelled at” for allowing all the doubling of IPs…and now they are checking.

Kinda sucks, but not the end of the world…..

      • Ben says:

I had one gentleman at the express lane check them (upping my bill by $5.00) but he wasn’t wrong in doing to so I can’t be mad at him. The other two ladies I dealt with did not check at all.

  13. Corina says:

Wow. You guys did great. I got to go back and check my receipts because I thought I did good, but after looking at you guys, I am wrong.

  14. Jess says:

I had to go back today because I realized I messed up my transaction when I got home…I had 8 kelloggs items not 10 grr…and I used some good coupons too!

Not too worry, trip number 2 was worth it too.
    1 box-apple jacks
    1 box-fruit loops
    2 boxes nutrigrain bars
    1 box cinnabuns bars
    5 boxes of poptarts
    1 box of cheezits

    Total=16.34
    Total after coupons= 9.84

So I’ll submit my reciept for the $10 rebate and I’ll have made 16 cents. I had it planned better yesterday with better coupons but they were out of things, etc. I knew I should have waited but we had to eat dinner!

  15. Jennifer Y. says:

I just wanted to post that I got a ton of the “new” blueberry muffin poptarts with the .55 ips. They are barf-o-rama. I also tried the chocolate banana one (or whatever that new flavor is) and they are terrible too. They have this white flavored goo in the middle. Just a heads up. It’s a great deal, but I’m glad they were free! I might try to give some away.

  16. Ben says:

Decided to go full out today so I planned a run of 10 transactions. I only got to do 7 because the store was closing and they were out of a couple of things so I had to scratch those plans. I saved the coupons so I can do 1 or 2 tomorrow.

    Chex Mix: 4
    Warm Delights: 3
    Hellmann’s Mayo: 4
    Brownie Mix: 8
    Kix: 6
    Wishbone: 7
    Bic Pens: 16
    Poptarts: 10
    HN Cheerios: 6
    Pasta (Clearance $1): 1
    Vaseline Lotion: 4
    Skippy: 6
    Q-Tips: 3
    Suave Bodywash: 3
    Ben & Jerrys Cup: 1
Fresh Bread (my friend wanted it)
    Ragu: 6
    Degree Deodorant: 5

OOP: 18.68 (rolled cats to bring it down to this)

    What I got for shopping:
    19 x $5 Cats ($95.00)
    01 x $3 Cat
    03 x $2 Phone Surveys ($6.00)

Additionally, since the people at my store are messy and like to throw things on the ground, I picked up the following:
$1 off anything Cat (Dr. Pepper/Snapple)
    $1/3 off Archway cookies
    $1.25 off Simply Smart Milk
$1.00 off Lean Cuisine Quesadillas or Wood Fire Pizza
$1.00 off Simply Lemonade w/ Raspberry.
    $2.00 Phone Survey (2x)

So after all is said and done, I am up $90.32!

  17. Manisha says:

I didn’t go nuts this time, because honestly, I just didn’t need a lot of that stuff. The best coupons I had were for more of the snack type stuff and this Weight Watcher doesn’t need chocolate chex mix thwarter her efforts!

I’m annoyed also, because Acme didn’t print my cats, and the customer service desk was not open anymore (I worked late today). So I couldn’t roll. But, they will hand me cash tomorrow when I go back. Since I paid with cash, it works out to the same OOP cost once I got back.

    Transaction 1:
    4 boxes of kix – 3 x .75 coupons
    1 box of honey nut cheerios – 1 x .55 coupon
    3 suave deodorant – 3 x .50 coupon
    1 knorr side
    4 boxes vegetable soup mix – 2 x .30 coupon
    3 warm delights – 3 x .50 coupon
    1 B&J ice cream

    OOP: 18 (and change)
    Earned: $15

    Transaction 2:
    1 12 roll papertowels – 1 x $1 coupon
    3 tide sticks – 3 x $1 coupon
    1 floss – 1 X $1 coupon

OOP: 15.13 (it would have been .13 if my cat had printed from above.)
    Earned: $5

    Transaction 3:
    2 Over the Moon chocolate milk – 2 x $1
    2 boxes raisin bran – 1 x $1
    2 boxes frosted flakes – 1 x $1
    5 poptarts – 2 x $1
    1 cinnabon bars – 1 x $1
    1 lipton iced tea
1 sandwich bags (on sale for $1)
    2 charmin wipes – 1 x $1
2 Shick razors – 2 x $4 (they were on sale for 5.99 so that’s an incredible price)

OOP: $19 and change (would have been $3 if my cat had printed)

So, I go back tomorrow, get my $20 in cash, and then submit my Kelloggs rebate for the $10 back. Even though I’m annoyed at having to put out over $40 when I planned to do more like $20 today, I did very well. All told, I’ll have spent just over $10 OOP after I get the money and the rebate back, so I can’t complain too badly. The razors themselves are worth double!
