If you have been reading this site for a while, you know that I am a big fan of $5 Dollar Dinners. Erin has a nice collection of meals there and since she has children with food allergies, she provides many gluten-free meal ideas as well. I don’t have children with allergies, but I have many friends who do and I am always hearing that they don’t know how to cut their budget with the dietary restrictions they have.
In combination with The Grocery Gathering by BeCentsAble, Erin has started a new weekly feature called Bargain Meal of the Week. The idea is simple: take the grocery circulars and create a $5 Dinner from what is on sale that week.
Currently, I am not a contributing member (although I am trying to figure out how to work at least 1 store in to my weekly schedule), and they don’t have any meals specific to Philadelphia-area stores, but there are plenty of great ideas to be found there. Additionally, Erin does have contributers for both Albertsons and Safeway. As these are the “parent companies” for Acme and Genuardi’s and the family of stores often run “family-wide sales”, they should give you a good guideline for those stores.
This can be a great resource for you, especially if you are just starting out and overwhelmed with a new way of grocery shopping. Check it out!
