Coupon Insert Preview: 8/2/09

coupon_cutting

As a reminder, the value of the coupons that you find in your newspaper may vary from the value in the provided link!  In addition, all of the stores in my area double coupons up to $.99 (so a $.75 coupon has a value of $1.50).   If the stores in your area don’t double or your paper is more expensive, you may not find the coupons as valuable as I do!

Click here to see the coupons this week.  There are FIVE inserts this week! (Edited to add:  FYI – the Kellogg’s insert was tucked in to the RedPlum/Unilever insert.  Look for a page sticking out that says “$102 in Family Savings and Offers Inside”…that’s the Kellogg’s Insert)

Coupons of Note

Chef Boyardee $.35/3:  coupons for this are fairly infrequent

Clean & Clear $1:  depending on the wording of the coupon, this might be able to be used to get free trial size cleanser or toner at Target

Fiber One Toaster Pastries $.50:  these go on sale at 3 for $5 all the time, making them $.66 after doubling

Cookie Crisp Cereal $.50:  this goes as low as $1.25 (bit more frequently 3 for $5 or 2 for $4), making it super-cheap after doubling

Johnson & Johnson Red Cross $1:  use this to get the mini first aid kits for free at most Target and Walmarts

Ken’s Dressings $1 (3 different coupons):  this goes on sale for as low as $1 each (but more frequently 4 for $5), making it free to super-cheap after doubling

Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Popcorn $.40:  this goes on sale for 3 for $5 all the time

Peter Pan $.50/2:  hold on to this until it is on sale at 3 for $5

Edge Shave Gel $.75:  The shave gels are a rare freebie at the drug stores, but you should be able to find it on sale at the supermarket for somewhere between $1 to 3 for $5, making it free to super-cheap.  At the very least, there is a travel size at Target for only $1

Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush 2-in-1 Starter Kit FREE wyb Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel:  while a coupon for a free item (even a BOGO one) is always nice…this one just makes no sense.  I thought the purpose of the 2-in-1 kit was so that you didn’t have to buy the toilet gels?  Oh well…..

Skintimate Cream Shave Gel $1Target has a travel size for $.99

All Liquid laundry Detergent $1:  goes on sale BOGO or for $3.99 all the time

Degree Clinical Protection $2:  a semi-frequent freebie or super-cheapie (after store rewards) at the drug stores

Knorr Rice and Pasta $.50/2: these go on sale 10 for $10 all the time

Ragu $.75/2:  these go on sale for about $1.25 to $1.66 all the time, making for some cheap sauce after doubling!

Skippy Peanut Butter $.50:  these go on sale for about $1.25 to $1.66 all the time

Suave Shampoo $1/2:  I see this on sale for as low as $.79 each all the time

Temptations $1/2:  goes on sale 10 for $10

Wish Bone Dressings $.50:  these go on sale for $1-$1.25 all the time! (oh – and FYI?  one of our favorite meals in our house is boneless skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot w/a bottle of italian dressing.  Cook for 4-6 hours, shred the chicken and serve over rice.  Getting the dressing for free to only $.25 makes it a super-cheap meal!)

Crest Toothpaste $.75 and $.50:  toothpaste is a frequent freebie at the drug stores (after store rewards program) and goes 10 for $10 with some regularity at the grocery stores

The rest of the Proctor & Gamble coupons:  not great, not horrible…standard P&G coupons (with the good ones being the razors)

Kellogg’s Coupons:  WOW!  a whole bunch of $1/2 coupons.  While we have seen better coupons in the recent past ($.50/1, which will double or $1/1 coupons), the sheer volume of coupons is overwhelming.  Kellogg’s is sponsoring some great deals at the supermarket allowing you to get cereal for super-cheap!  Don’t forget about the Fuel For School Rebate  as well!  There should be another copy of the rebate form in the Kellogg’s insert!

So how many copies of the paper would I buy?

If I was building a stockpile:  8-12

Now that I am in stockpile-maintenance mode:  8-12

Why so many?  Do you really need to ask this week?  Between the General Mills, the Kellogg’s, and the Unilever coupons, it’s a GREAT week for coupons for your stock-up items!!  I only pointed out what I consider the “amazing” coupons…aside from my list, there are a ton of “simply great” ones!

I’m thrilled this week – thrilled I tell ya!

  2. Mendy says:

Thanks so much! I’m glad that I was thinking along the same lines as you about how many papers to buy.

  3. Brina says:

How much do you usually pay for a newspaper? Mine are $1.75. I only usually get 2 a week.

    • Mindi Cherry says:

I pay $1.75 per paper. Like Stacey, I could pay $1.25 if I was willing to drive to Walmart (and I probably should have, since I bought 12 copies this week).

But even though the paper is $1.75 and it stinks to plunk down that much for newspapers, there are many weeks where the savings is just worth it!

  4. Stacey says:

    I pay $1.25 at Walmart.

  5. Tara says:

Just went through my Sunday paper – no Kellogg’s insert in the Red Plum, or anywhere in the paper. Is this just in certain areas?

  6. Kristin says:

I’m in the Seattle area and no Kellogg’s Red Plum this week. We did receive it earlier in the week (Tues) with the grocery store ads, so I guess that was it? :( Bummer because I wanted more of those Kellogg’s coupons!

  7. Paula says:

I didn’t get the Kellogg’s insert here in California either! Very bummed as I wanted those coupons! I only bought 5 copies but I went through them all before I bought them. Some were missing either the smartsource or redplum inserts and all missing the Kellogg’s. Since they were all missing the Kellogg’s I just figured they weren’t in there in the first place but it still makes me bummed. I bought mine at CVS. Luckily our sunday paper is only $1.

  8. mellisa says:

I just wanted to see if the Kellogg insert was regional? I checked my red plum insert — it’s not there. I bought 5 papers and am feeling a little left out! Who would you contact to find out if your part of the country was supposed to get this coupon insert?

  9. ashley says:

I bought 4 papers and NO Kelloggs or the others of the redplum or smartsource. I am debating about running up to the store to try to buy a different paper to see if it is in there. I am BUMMED!!!!

  10. diane says:

I’m in Hudson County in NJ and my paper had no Redplum and no Kellogg’s inserts! I pay $2.50 for the Newark Star Ledger, so I was totally bummed out about not getting those 2 inserts because I wanted them more than the other ones! Bummer.

  11. Kelly W says:

I only bought five this week but I stand there and check everyone to make sure all the inserts are there. Someone every Sunday morning comes and takes one of the inserts out of each paper and I guess stuffs them all in one to purchase! URGH! The cashiers know this happens but don’t care. Since we are in DE there are usually only about 20 Inquirers available to start with and I usually have to go through about 10 just to find four that still have everything they should. I pay $1.75 per paper.
