Mindi, I have a question. Sometimes the coupons listed don’t exactly match the items you are supposed to buy to get the deal, ie. the kashi. Can you use coupons for kashi cereal bars to buy boxes of cereal or am I missing something? How does this work and is it ethical? Thanks!

    • Mindi Cherry says:

      Hi Jess!

The Kashi cereal bars are actually included in the deal (the TLC bars)….but to answer your question, you should not use coupons for cereal bars to buy cereal (even if the coupon will scan).

      • Jess says:

So, here’s my question. If the TLC bars are included and not the cereal bars, why the link to the cereal bars coupon? Also, the TLC coupon is $1.50/2 (you must buy the cereal AND the TLC bars). I just don’t see how it would work out to $.50/box… Thanks for your answers on this. I LOVE your website!

I was very excited about my trip to CVS today but a supervisor told me that I couldn’t use a coupon on a free item as in 2 coupons with a BOGO (Bic Triumph Pens). Actually she told me how she told another woman that so I had to put my items away. Have you encountered that before and if so what I do? Go to a different store?!!

  3. Joanna says:

I have a question about the herbal essences deal. i must be completely dense, because i can’t seem to figure out how you get 2 for .99! i have all the coupons, and i’d really like to get them and do that deal, but i don’t want to get there and not have it figured out. i’ve seen the rite aid post, and apparently you can get them for free but i also can’t figure that one out either. any help would be appreciated!

  4. Jennifer Y. says:

Liz – You CAN use a coupon on a free item. You can use a BOGO coupon and a $$ off coupon for 2 items. You can also use a BOGO coupon with a BOGO sale to get both for free. CVS is the only store that I know of that allows this. I would call or email corporate and they will help you out, and hopefully educate the manager on policy.

Joanna – 2/.99 is after you factor in extra bucks. I would check Mindi’s intro to CVS-ing if you are new to CVS.

Here is how it breaks down
    2.99 Herbal Essances shampoo
    2.99 Herbal Essances styler
    = 5.98
    - 2.99 buy shampoo, get styler free coupon from the 7/26 RP
    - 1.00 herbal essances from teh 7/5 P&G
= 1.99 out of pocket, earn 1.00 ecbs

If you have extra care bucks, you can use them to lower your oop, or get it for free.

  5. Joanna says:

thank you Jennifer! I just got an Herbal Essences shampoo and styler for free at after SCR.

  6. Stacy says:

My CVS won’t let me use the BOGO and the $1 on the Herbel Essences????
Were can I found their coupon policy???

  7. Liz says:

I emailed cvs and asked about using 2 coupons on a BOGO and this is what they sent back…
In the case where a particular item is on sale for “buy one get one free” (BOGO), you are only allowed to use one manufacturer’s coupon. For instance, if Revlon lipstick is on sale for BOGO, you can use one manufacturer’s BOGO coupon. You would get both items free & pay any applicable tax. The Store Manager can limit quantities.
    Thoughts??

    • Mindi Cherry says:

Liz: it really depends on who you get when you email CVS or stop in to a store. I’ve had people in corporate (and in the store) tell me that you can’t use a BOGO coupon with a BOGO sale…and you got someone at corporate who told you that you could!

My theory is: CVS will get reimbursed for both coupons (and in many cases, the register won’t even beep when you use both coupons). I always give it a try and don’t complain if they say “no”…because the next cashier may not have a problem with it.

Until CVS gets a more clearly-defined coupon policy (right now, it seems to be “whatever we feel like saying right now”), I have no problems with trying! ;-)
