Dads Rock Giveaway Bash: Keurig Special Edition Brewer #DadsRock

This post is part of the Dads Rock Giveaway Bash Make sure that you check out my other open giveaways! Check out this post for a complete list of the other 13 blogs participating in the Bash!

So I seem to be late to hop in the Keurig bandwagon and truthfully?  This Keurig was for me, not Brad (he is 41 years old and has NEVER tasted coffee…..I know – he’s strange!)

But for those of you who don’t have a husband that is as strange as mine….the Keurig makes a fantabulous cup of coffee! I know that in the past I have referred to a certain other coffeemaker as “My Beloved Coffeemaker”, but that one has now been moved to the pantry (to be used for parties when I need to make entire pots of coffee) and the Keurig is my new favorite.

How do I love the Keurig? Let me count the ways:

1. Choices: Keurig sent me a variety pack of coffee, tea and hot chocolates with my brewer. I could have the Kenyan Extra Bold as my first cup of the day (that one will put hair on your chest!), then a Caramel Vanilla as my 2nd cup. With over 200 K-cup varieties of gourmet coffee, tea and hot cocoa from your favorite brands (Green Mountain, Tully’s etc) to choose from, even the most discerning coffee drinkers can find something they love! (although seriously? Whoever thought up the idea of “blueberry coffee” should have their head examined!)

2. Portion Control: Those of you who have been around this site for a while know that it is nothing for me to drink a 10-cup pot of coffee in a day….and at the age of 41, that probably isn’t the best idea in the world (health-wise). I don’t know what it is, but since I have had the Keurig, I’ve been sticking to just 2-3 cups per day (probably because the coffees that they sent me were all Bold and Extra Bold….it’s as if they KNEW me!)

3.  Easy clean-up:  as in – there is none.  As much as I loved my old coffeemaker, it was a complete pain in the tush to clean.

As a matter of fact, there is only one drawback to the Keurig that I can see…and it’s the one complaint that I have had since they first hit the market…and that is the waste involved with the cups.  However, we had a discussion about this a few days ago on the Moms Need To Know Facebook Fan page and a couple of things were pointed out to me that made me feel better:

1.  The K-cups are recyclable.  I just take the foil off, rinse them out and throw them in the recycling bin.  While I am sure that most people don’t do that, the fact is that they CAN (and I DO).

2.  Less water is being used:  not only am I not throwing unused coffee down the drain, I am not using all that hot water to wash out my coffee pot  every day (and the parts…my old one had 4 parts AND the pot & lid that needed to be washed every day)

3.  The Reusable Coffee Filter:  with this, I can use my own coffee to minimize waste (or if I just want a “regular old cup of Chock Full Of Nuts”…on sale BOGO with a $1/1 coupon, of course!)

So what sets the Keurig Special Edition apart from other Keurigs? (please note:  I have no other frame of reference, these are the specs that Keurig sent me)

The Keurig Special Edition Brewer is one of our high end models and offers the following features:

  • Auto On/Off, Digital Clock, Adjustable Temperature Options, coffee brews in under one minute and the removable drip tray allows for the use of travel mugs
  • Three cup size settings 6oz, 8oz, and 10oz
  • Available at www.Keurig.com and retailers such as Bed Bath and Beyond for $139.95.
