Up until yesterday, the only paperless coupons that Genuardi’s shoppers could load on to their card were Upromise ones. Now Genuardi’s has been added to the Shortcuts.com line (as well as the other stores in the Safeway family: Tom Thumb, Safeway, Dominick’s, Randall’s, etc)
Signing up for a Shortcuts.com is free. Simply choose a username and password, register your store loyalty card number (note: you will need the actual card number, not your phone number) and select the coupons that you wish to load on to your card. Then just make sure that you swipe your card when you shop and buy those items and the savings will be automatically deducted from your order. If you forget what coupons are loaded on to your card, you can just log back on to Shortcuts.com and see which coupons you have and when they expire.
I’m not sure how I feel about paperless coupons. For those that live in the Land Of No Doubles, it may not be that big of a deal, but I assume that the Shortcuts.com coupons don’t double (unlike a coupon that is scanned at the register). On the other hand, anything that reduces the amount of wasted paper is a bonus!
What do you think of paperless coupons?

I actually tried loading my card the other day, and when I went to checkout, the coupon didn’t come off. I had a feeling that may happen and I had a paper coupon for the product that I was “testing”, but it was annoying. I feel they feel like people won’t pay enough attention at checkout and they don’t have to give the coupon.
If you have a shortcuts coupons and a paper coupon can you use both, what will happen if you do?
I loaded my card as a Randall’s card a few months ago and it works. I even used my phone number b/c I don’t have my card anymore. Maybe contact Shortcuts or Cellfire? I have a feeling the cashiers will have not idea what’s gong on. I love it!
Hopefully, Mindi will chime in on this! I looked around online a few weeks ago and could not find a clear answer on this. I have used a paper coupon, shortcuts coupon, AND a cellfire coupon for an item and it works.
If you sign up for shortcuts and cellfire and look at the coupons there are a few items that crossover, and there is no way to choose only one at checkout.
Ok – was out for the past few hours…just checking in!
Here’s the deal: coupons from Cellfire and Shortcuts are manufacturers coupons and because of that, they shouldn’t be used in combo with traditional paper coupons. However, paperless coupons are still very new and store registers haven’t quite yet figured out how to disallow the use of paper coupons when paperless coupons have been used.
So if you are asking if you CAN use paper coupons? The answer is yes (at most stores)
If you are asking if you SHOULD? The answer is no, because that is using more than 1 manufacturers coupon on an item.
Hope this helps!
In theory, I like the idea of paperless coupons: one less thing to juggle at the store, save a tree, etc.
In practice, it is sometimes hard to remember what you have loaded on your shopper’s card and for how much it is. So if you are comparing prices on the “name brand with coupon” and the “store brand without coupon” you could set yourself up for a major headache (and then you have to remember if you loaded the coupon for the Excedrin Migraine you are going to have to purchase!)
Unless you print out a master sheet of what’s on your card, but then doesn’t that negate using paperless coupons?
