Don’t forget to grab your $2 off $5 Meat coupon!  As a reminder, the coupon can be used with any meat purchase, including “branded” meat (Perdue, Oscar Mayer, etc) and can be stacked with a manufacturers coupon for even greater savings!  Limit 1 $2/$5 meat coupon per customer/transaction.

Is it just me, or is Giant not even trying this week?

Hey Mindi- Thanks for always doing the Giant report. I know you feel about them, so I think it’s really great that you put your feelings aside and do this for us. Actually, it’s the only grocery store we have near us until our Wal-Mart opens next year. (Which, is a HUGE deal around these parts. LOL) Thanks!

It’s funny the way you feel about Giant. I LOVE that store, and especially now that I’ve started to use coupons in earnest. Have you ever done the specials where you buy a certain number of items from the same group and receive a dollar amnount offf your order? This week BC Au Gratin potatoes are 4 for $5 and I have 4 .40 coupons for them. (yay for printables!) Also, Q Chewy granola bars are 2 for $4 and I have a $1/2 coupon. They are from the same group, so if I buy all 6 I get another $4 off. All together it ends up $2.40 for all 6 products, or .60 apiece! PS. They also have the lowest price I’ve seen for generic loratadine, which is for my husband’s allergies.

My problem with Giant is threefold:

      1. My local store treats couponers like crooks. I refuse to be treated that way. I have even complained to the managers and received nothing more than an “I’m sorry you feel that way” (a passive-aggressive response if I ever heard one!). I wrote a letter to corporate and received no response. I choose to give my business to a store that responds to customers and doesn’t treat them like crooks (like Acme)

      2. My Giant only doubles the first like-coupon in a transaction. That means if I want to get several of one item, I have to split my transactions. Considering I can go across or down the street to Acme or Superfresh where they will double unlimited coupons per transaction…why should I waste my time splitting my transactions at Giant?

      3. In anticipation of building Gas Pumps across the street, my Giant switched to Gas Points over a year ago. The problem? The construction is on hold and has been for some time and the next closest Giant Gas pump is 25 minutes away. Logic would dictate that they switch back to Catalina deals until they get the zoning issue resolved (with building the pumps). Instead, they keep doing gas deals. I’m not driving 25 minutes to save on gas (especially when it takes me 2 weeks to go through a tank of gas). Gas points are of no value to me.

I’m wondering if it is just the individual store that has turned you off? I know you gals all love Walgreen’s and Rite Aid, but the stores near me are so horribly junky and poorly staffed that after visiting once I can’t bring myself to go back, regardless of how good the deals might be!

I shop at the local Giant and the customer service staff is always extremely helpful. Last week I forgot to give the checkout kid my .50 Huggies wipe coupon and I went up to the customer service desk and they gave me $1.00 cash back without question and with a smile. I was anti-Giant for a while, but if you shop for “real groceries” there and not 20 boxes of brownies (like I did tonight at Acme), they do have the lowest everyday prices, which combined with one coupon always is a bargain. Their Huggies wipes are $2.17, so with one .50 coupon doubled, I can always get wipes for a little over $1. And their diapers are always $8.99, so with those $3.00 coupons, another bargain for $5.99. Love the $2 off $5 meat coupon. This week, buy 3 lunchables 3/$5, and use the coupon. =3 for $3. Cheap school lunch!

It is so interesting how different one store can be from the next in how they treat their customers! To date, I’ve never had a problem with my coupons at Giant. I totally understand about how cashiers can make your feel like you a crook. I like to shop at Giant since they don’t give me a problem with my stack of coupons, even though they only double one like Mindi said. I conduct my life with integrity and shop the same way!
