Piggy Paint: Review & Giveaway

I have a 3-year old daughter who is “all girl”.  It is rare that you see her in any colors but pink or lavender (and that is assuming that she isn’t running around the house in a princess dress), she is already great at walking around in high heels and her favorite gift this past Christmas was a Snow White makeup kit (no – I didn’t get it for her – my in-laws did!)

She also likes nail polish and it’s a huge fight between us…I use “regular” nail polish and even the nail polishes made for children require the use of remover that seems just a little too harsh for a 3-year old. (she’s worse than me…the first chip in her polish and she wants them redone!).

Enter Piggy Paint.  The people at Piggy Paint sent me a bottle of their nail polish and nail polish remover to try on my daughter (I assume they didn’t want me to use it on myself) and I have to say – I liked it!  Even better, my daughter loved it (and I think that it helped that they sent purple nail polish – a first for my daughter!)

Piggy Paint is a a kid-friendly polish without the accompanying drawbacks of traditional polishes. It is free of formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, biphenyl A, ethyl acetate and acetone… and made in the USA!  It dried super-quick on my daughter’s fingers and toes and even my husband had no problem applying it.

I do have to say that it did seem more prone to chipping or wearing off than my daughter would like, but that is likely because it is water-based and she takes a daily 30-40 minute bath AND still always has her fingers in her mouth (the polish on her toes lasted much longer than the polish on her fingers).

As an added bonus…we are in the process of “going greener” in our household and switching to more organic products (more on that later) and I really like the story of how Piggy Paint came to be

In exchange for trying Piggy Paint, the people at Piggy Paint have give me 2 offers to share with you:

  2. kelsey lynch says:

It intrigues me b/c I too am a mom of a 3 (almost 4) year old girl who is obsessed with nail polish and is always using my O.P.I. or Zoya but I have always worried about the chemicals so I never do her fingernails (her toes always). This sounds fantastic!

the piggy paints intrigue me because I have granddaughters who are “girlie” and love their nails painted and this product is something I would feel safe using on them!

Is keeping my fingers crossed on this one DD is turning five in 3 weeks.. so what a cute present this would be.. and maybe I could keep my expensive polishes for me lol

  7. Kristine says:

I too have a girlie 3 year old. She always has her toes done, but I won’t paint her nails yet b/c she is a thumb sucker. She told me this week she is trying to not suck her thumb anymore so she can have her fingernails painted too! How fun it would be to win this for her “reward”.

  8. jamilee says:

i subscribe. I also have a 2.5 yr old girly-girl who’s favorite color is pink and the purpose of naps is to ‘get pink and purple energy’. We have like 10 bottles of a variety of polish colors that will never be worn on any grown-up girl’s hands. Last weekend, within about 2 hrs of her aunt painting her nails, 3 were ‘missing’ and in her ‘tummy’. I have created a monster. Oh, and our chapstick/lipgloss obsession is worse (it has to be kept very high) and doesn’t help through XMas gifts we acquired about 25 different varieties. God help me.

  9. lisa says:

This sounds like great stuff!! Would love to have this for my grandaughter, since it is safe from chemicals. She loves her nails polished along with her piggies

  10. christine says:

Cool, thanks for the opportunity. I love the
“green” idea and am all for it – as is my little girl!

  11. Jennifer says:

I like that it’s all natural. My daughter has psoriasis on her finger nails and polishing them is difficult but getting it off is even worse. While it not lasting on your daughter’s nails might be a drawback it makes it easier for me.

I never paint my daughters nails for fear that she’ll put them in her mouth. i llike that it’s kid-friendly.

  23. Alexandra says:

What intrigues me about Piggy Paint?
Number 1 would be how non-toxic it is! My 4 year old daughter LOVES to have her nails done but I can’t stand to put smelly nail polish on those tiny fingers, especially because I know she will be biting her nails whether it’s there or not. As soon as I started reading about it I figured that it would probably not last as long as regular polishes but I’d be willing to sacrifice. With a house full of boys, any excuse to spend some extra glamorous time with my princess is more than welcome!

  25. Christy Crider says:

This is really cool!! My 4 yr old daughter Alexis would love this. She too loves to dress up and things have to match from the shoes to the polish. I don’t like using my polish on her because of all the chemicals. It’s just doens’t seem right using that on her. We are also trying to go to the greener side so this would be a really good thing for us to try. I also have a 2 yr old that can’t wait to have her’s done. I haven’t painted her toes an fingers yet but I that will be soon. I also follow your blog and I am a fan on facebook! Thanks for the great posts!! XOXO

  26. Barb L says:

I am an email subscriber but this is cool polish – I have a 10 year old daughter and a 7 year old who love to get nails painted and it is “green”

  27. michelle says:

I have little boys, but I forwarded this on to my best friend who has daughters. Her 3 year old is a very girly girl. She would really benefit from this product.

  28. Jacquelyn Cox says:

I love this! We recently started painting my 2-year-old daughter, Elizabeth’s nails and she is OBSESSED! For her birthday last week, I ended up taking her for a manicure at a salon which she, of course, LOVED! I didn’t give much thought to the chemicals (bad mommy!) until she started chipping away at the paint with her teeth.

I love that this product is all natural and that the company was started by a mother looking for a “better way” for her kids. I also love her suggestions on using the paints to practice color names and patterns. Thanks so much for the heads up on this awesome company!

  29. Jacquelyn Cox says:

BTW – the pic of your daughter is too cute! She looks like a model!

  30. Chandra says:

I like the fact that the nail polish is chemical free.

  33. Stephanie says:

Love that its a small business and mom owned! Yay piggy paint!

  34. amy says:

i am intrigued and interested in this piggy paint as i have 4 children, 3 who are girls. from ages 8yr to 9mos. my first 3 children have had food allergies as well as enviromental allergies. so i have to be careful what i use with them. when pregnant with my 4th child i started eating and drinking organic and all natural foods. i was trying to see if i could prevent my 4th baby from having allergies. as to my joy it did. she does not have any food allergies. so i am a believer in organic and using natural products especially for my children. i have never hear of a natural nail polish. my girls would love something like this so we can paint nails together. including their baby sister. i am an email subscriber as well as facebook. thank for sharing this with us.

  35. LeighAnn says:

I love that it’s all natural. I worry about using polish on myself so I definitely wouldn’t put it on my child. This sounds like a great product!

  36. Kim L says:

All of the above. I love that they are natural. My daughter sucks her thumb and I would love a more natural polish. They colors are great and I want to help support a mom’s buisness.

  37. Kim L says:

I follow via google reader and email.

  38. Jessica says:

I love the fact that Piggy Paint is a mom based business! I love hearing stories like this. I would rather spend my money on an honest to good company like this, with real women providing us with great products!

  43. kelley says:

The fact it is all natural. I worry about chemicals in the paints. I would even use it for me, I haven’t painted my nails in 3 yrs worrying about the chemicals while prgnant/nursing. Sounds like a great product!!!

  44. Maira says:

i am very impressed by how much safer this nail polish is. we are also in the process of “greening up”. i have (typical mom) started by focusing on my daughters products first. we have made the transition to organic/paraben-free shampoo, lotion, hair detangler, and sunblock. i just cant bring myself to put toxic nail polish on their little (thumb-sucking) fingers when i am going through such effort and expense to cut that kind of stuff out. my three year old daughter would LOVE to have her nails painted. she doesnt even know its an option because put it under the “only grown ups” list (with bubble gum, soda, and coffee). thank you so much for introducing us to such a wonderful product.
