This was supposed to be a video post (my first), but you know what happens when anyone points a camera at me or just PLANS to point a camera at me? I get a big honkin’ zit on my face. And since I never claimed to be anything but vain, we’ve got a text post for you!
Anyway…..
About 2 weeks ago, I was contacted by the people at Sears asking me if I wanted to try out their new gift cards. What is so great about their gift cards? They can be used interchangeably! If you get a gift card from Sears? It can be used at Sears, Lands End AND Kmart (both online and “real stores”).
So what was my challenge? To see how many gifts I could buy for $200!
And here’s what I got (note: if you are related to me and participating in the family pollyanna, you might want to stop reading right now):
First stop was Sears
Clothes: We have always managed to get great deals in children’s clothes at Sears. We picked up a few “princess PJs” for my daughter, grabbed her from under the rack and were on our way to the next department.
Tools: and here is where a fight ensued as my husband decided that he needed that shiny thingamajig (sorry to be so technical). After I explained to him that this was a Christmas shopping trip and not a “let’s get more shiny thingamajigs that will collect dust but look pretty in the toolbox” trip I won!
Holiday: I know that this was supposed to be for gifts, but I couldn’t resist…..we grabbed a few decorations for the tree and were off again.
Kitchen: I wanted to get an AeroGarden. A fight ensued as my husband explained to me that this was a Christmas shopping trip and not a “let’s get more shiny thingamajigs that will collect dust but look pretty in the kitchen” trip. I lost!
The next stop was Lands End (which is actually a section in my Sears)
It was here that I hit the jackpot! By this time, the kids were driving everyone within a 100 foot radius crazy, so my husband took the kids to the car while I spent time browsing for gifts. I was able to get both of my (adult) nephews a polar fleece shirt and coordinating turtleneck for ridiculously low prices. I was also able to snag a cozy navy sweater and shirt for my mother’s boyfriend. And since I was doing so well with shopping, I grabbed a few shirts for me as well.
So after buying 10 pieces of clothing at Lands End, 2 nightgowns for my daughter and a few decorations, how much did I have left on the gift card? $45!
Off to Kmart:
I was feeling a little guilty about being given such an extravagant gift card from Sears, so I hit the Buy 2 Get One Free Sale on Playskool toys at Kmart. Armed with the coupons from Coupons.com, I picked up an obscene amount of Toys and then dropped them off at a Toys For Tots drop-off.
So would you like to see how many deals you can get at Sears, Lands End or Kmart? Well, I have TWO $50 gift cards to give away!

I would secertly buy gifts for my nephews and leave it on their front door step. Their Dad is out of work and mom works simply to pay the bills. Things have been really tight for them and I know that they won’t be getting much under their tree this Christmas.

Stuff for my three wonderful children and husband of course.

Probably some craftsman tools for my hubby and dad.
I’m a fan on FB.
I would buy another AeroGarden (I’m starting my seeds in the one I’m getting for Christmas this spring!) and some clothing for my son and myself.
I would use the gift card to help pay for a propane grill!
I would buy each of the kids a toy for Christmas. This year has been tough financially so Christmas will definitely not be like last year.
I will post on my blog:http://www.facebook.com/SoCalledWife?ref=mf
I’d get Christmas dresses for my girls!
I just posted this to my FB page, too!
I would purchase necessities for a friend of ours that is on sick leave due to an injury (back) sustained on the job. She is a school bus aid for special needs kids and this place won’t pay her for sick time or job related injuries. She takes care of these kids for over 4 hours a day; my hubby drives the bus. She’s herself has been raising funds for a friend who was taken by a gigolo of a hubby, and not fending for herself. I think she deserves a little something extra for just herself.
I’d donate the card to our local food pantry to be used to buy toys or clothing for one of the families it is serving.
