Preheat oven to 350.
Butter a 13x9 inch baking dish.
Unroll crescent rolls and divide in to triangles
Peel and core apples. Cut each apple in to 8 wedges
Roll each apple piece in a crescent roll triangle and place in a prepared dish.
Melt butter in a saucepan and add sugar, vanilla and cinnamon.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook on low until thickened.
Pour over dumplings.
Carefully, pour the soda into the middle and sides of a pan, avoiding pouring onto rolls.
Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
