Countdown To Christmas: Classroom Holiday Savings

Lauren, a teacher from Austin, TX Submitted this Holiday Savings Tip

    Penny Stocking Stuffers

For the past few years I have been doing "Penny Stocking Stuffers" in my classroom. I bought stockings on sale after the holidays and I reuse them every year. I ask each student to bring a small gift (penny to a $1) for each student in the class. Some ideas are: pencils, erasers, cookies, candy, homemade cards, ornaments, small toys, etc.

I also contribute a small $1-$2 gift for all my students that I get from the dollar store or in bulk from a party store. After everyone has contributed, the stocking are over stuffed and can barely hang.

My students and their parents love the idea since it is inexpensive and everyone gets so much. The kids love to put their gifts in the stockings and they can't wait to take them down and look inside.

This is a great idea to save money! Thanks Lauren!
