In the midst of all of the craziness last week (if you are a new reader to this blog, there is just too much for me to link to...just look at my last 5 or 6 posts....and make sure you aren't eating chili or chocolate pudding while you do it!), my order from Amazon.com came.
So what did I order? Well, on the recommendation of Rhonda, I purchased Skinny Bitch and Skinny Bitch in The Kitch. And since I HATE paying shipping, I ordered a book that had been on my wishlist: "God, I have Issues" by Father Thibodeaux (Father Thibs, for short). And now, for your pleasure (and to prove to lisamm that I am not a complete troglodyte...I seriously doubt she has my large collection of Chick Lit, yet for some reason she keeps coming back here!), my very first Blog Book Review
Now don't worry...I'm not about to start getting all religious on you. Considering the titles of the other books in the box, you can safely assume that I will remain my usual snarky stuff (and possibly thinner). But I will say that if you sometimes have the difficulties that I have with praying (such as feeling guilty for calling Jesus "Dude"), then you need this book.
From the introduction: "God, I Have Issues" is not intended to be read cover to cover. It is a reference manual to help you bring the stuff of your life in to your daily prayer time".
With chapters covering everything from "God, My Family is Driving Me Nuts" to "God, I'm a Lazy Procrastinator" and "God, This Ministry Stuff is Tough", there seems to be something for everyone in this. (I just wish that there was a chapter entitled "God - I'm going to smash my computer to pieces if you don't help me figure out Photoshop"). Each chapter deals with a different emotion, gives you suggested scripture readings, prayer pointers and some famous quotes (including uber-religious ones like "After the ecstasy, go do the laundry"....hey - the guy is a Jesuit!). It's an easy-to-read format that did help to give me a bit of peace and "back to normalcy" over the weekend (although I bet you all thought that I had dug in to the leftover Percocet from my c-section, didn't you?). Give it a try....hey - it's only $10.36 at Amazon!
So there you have it....my very first book review! And what am I reading now? I'm finally getting around to reading "Something Borrowed" by Emily Giffin....'cause me likey the chick lit!

Sister Honey Bunch

Hey, watchatalkinabout, I like chick lit! Great job on the book review. I need that book. I keep coming back here 'cuz I need my daily snark fix. Thanks!

I have Something Borrowed on my bookshelf too. Maybe I'll read that next!
Say What?
I think that was possibly one of the best book reviews I have read in a long time! I will give you an "A" and a gold star.
Now I really want that book. Like you I have a hard time sitting down and praying (other than the "dear God if these kids don't stop whining....") and I loved the chapter titles! The first two describe me to a "t."
Mmmm, wonder if my local Catholic bookstore carries it....thanks for the tip.

I'll have to run down to the library and check out this book. Lord knowns I need all the help I can get. Is there a chapter called "God, I'm a Total Mess, a Basketcase, Have a Fat Ass, and Need a Job"? If not, I might have to write it myself.
