When Mommy and Daddy are sick.

    by Mindi Cherry

    FacebookPinEmail

I'm back among the living...barely.  I still feel like crap, but I have too much to do today to stay in bed (where I spent the last two days).

Unfortunately, Brad was also sick this weekend....so much that he called out sick this morning.  In the 17.5 years that I have known him, this is only the third time he has called out sick.

With both of us sick, it is the perfect opportunity to showcase the difference between when Mommy is sick and when Daddy is sick (and for the record, I am MUCH sicker than he is!)

    Here is Mommy's "sick day":

wake up at 6:30am.  Take a daytime cold medicine

Shower, dress, get kids up, dressed & teeth brushed.

Make breakfast.  Make lunch for 1st grader.

Throw a load of laundry in the washer.

Put away dishes in dishwasher.  Re-load with breakfast dishes.

    Fold two loads of laundy.

Change all sheets (because even though I am sick, Monday is still "sheet day").

Send emails to other parents about tonight's school musical practice.

Read comments left on blog and try to respond to various questions all in one reply.

Pick up son from pre-school and take him to Speech Therapy.

Swing by a friend's house on the way home from Speech because you didn't see her in church yesterday and she is due to have her baby any minute and you have left two messages for her.  See a "It's a Girl sign".  Come home and email the 5 women in your "mommy" Club who offered to make meals.  Let them know to be on stand-by to deliver a meal as soon as you hear from new mom or her husband.

    Dust upstairs, clean upstairs bathrooms.

12:00pm:  take 2nd dose of cold medicine....'cause you got shit to do!

    When Daddy is sick:

wake up at 7:30am.  Shower, dress.  Help children find shoes & coat.  Take them to bus stop.

    Give The Queen a bath.

Sleep on top of freshly-made bed for 2 hours.

Wake up to find wife gone.  Migrate to family room.

Put in VeggieTales for The Queen to watch.

Sleep on sofa until wife returns home.

Call me crazy, but does this seem a little uneven to anyone else?

Nope. That seems about right. In my world anyway.

I'd say that sounds about right. It isn't fair, but that is generally how it works.

Did DH want praise for his "2%" effort that was putting in the Veggie Tales?

      Hope you feel better soon.

Good heavens Mindi, it sure does! It's so true that when the Daddy's get sick, they just don't have the strength we have to get through the day, except to "whine" of course that they aren't feeling well and that's why nothing is getting done.

I do hope you all start feeling better soon, truly sux.

Sounds about normal for my house too. I have repeatedly told my Hubs that given a choice I would rather one of the kids be sick than him, because he is a much bigger BABY! Hope you are feeling better very soon.

In my house it is like this:
Daddy DOESN't get up...sleeps in as long as he can before he needs to get up and go to the bathroom or eat. Then he goes back to sleep some more.

Mommy does all of the usual things, PLUS takes care of Daddy.

Way too uneven. I think you should strike. Seriously!!! It worked for the writers. How long will he go without food and clean underware before he caves?

Thanks to everyone for all of your good wishes. I am much better today. I ended up with bronchitis and it still feels as if a Mack truck is sitting on my chest, but today is the first day that I can walk up the stairs without getting winded and every muscle in my body isn't screaming.

I'm catching up on my comments this AM and will get a new post out by early afternoon (it's forumlating in my head as I am typing this comment). I'll go blog-hopping this afternoon.

Oh yeah - and BusyDad? that's the price you pay for hanging out with "Mommy Bloggers" we just love to bash the Dads....and of course, Daddy Bloggers can't rip on the Moms because we are perfect, donchaknow!
