So I have a confession to make:
I am fat!
I have struggled with my weight my entire adult life. After Thomas was born 10 years ago, I went on Weight Watchers, followed the plan and was 1.5 lbs from my goal weight when I got pregnant with Jonathan (yes - I cried....SO close).
Since Jonathan was born, I made half-hearted attempts to lose the weight, but still remained about 30 lbs overweight. Then this past summer hit and between the death of my brother-in-law, the kids constantly fighting and the growing demands of this website, I started "stress-eating" and didn't stop, gaining 25 lbs since June.
Last week I rejoined Weight Watchers and found that I am 55 pounds from my goal weight. While I won't say that the numbers on the scale shocked me, it was a very humbling moment. I was forced to take responsibility for my actions and take steps to correct them.
You may be thinking "why wouldn't she wait until after the holidays to do that?". The answer to that is simple: I was tired of making excuses as to why I would "start back soon". I may not have lost any weight the first week, but because I was now back "On Program", I made it through 2 very "pound packing" meals without gaining. I consider that a success!
In an effort to hold myself accountable, I am starting "55 From Fit Friday" and I hope you will join me. Let's talk about our challenges, struggles AND our successes!
Is weight loss one of your goals in 2012? How are you planning on making that happen?
Jessica
This could not have come at a better time. I am also in denial of my fatness and am shocked everytime I have to buy clothes, or even look in the mirror- who is that fat person?!? I am tired of excuses and I need to be accountable for what I put into my body. I need to find balance. I frequently eat healthy, organic, home grown meals. But more times than I like I will eat total crap and I am just addicted to sweets!! Combine that will my lazyness- I recoil in horror at the idea of physical activity- I am not in a good place right now and I do want to make a change. I am looking forward to your posts for inspiration (no pressure) 🙂

Hi!
I am joining a gym so I can do water aerobics. The only exercise I enjoy. No I'm not a grandma, I just turned 40 and have two boys and a stressful job where I work mid-shift (3 - 10 pm)...which means I've been eating when I get home. Mystery hunger I call it because I'm really not hungry at all.
Anyway aside from the gym, I'm going to stop my mystery eating. It's a good start anyway.
I have about 25-30 pounds to lose!
We can do this!
Kathleen
Why don't you eat 3 or 4 hours before you leave work, if you can. When you get home instead of eating bad food have an apple. Eat it slowly! If apples aren't your thing drink a large glass of ice water. When you awake have another glass this time squeeze a little fresh lemon in it. This should jump start your metabolism. Snack on nuts. Protein is great for losing weight! Good luck!

Congratulations on taking your first steps to get healthy! I rejoined weight watchers in October. 10 lbs down so far. 26 more to go to hit lifetime member. I'm just maintaining instead of losing for the holidays also. Keep up the good work. I look forward to reading “55 From Fit Friday”.

I also joined weight watchers in October, and I am down 25 lbs.. I have 55lbs to get to where I want to be.. I am also participating in a 8 week weight loss challenge with friends on Facebook. I hope that you can get to where you want to be and stay there. I think a good support team is the best thing to help a person be accountable!

OMG, had to laugh out loud (here a work) when I read your e-mail. I, too, got pregnant soooo close to my goal weight and have since put on weight since the birth of my daughter and the financial struggles that have ensued.
Good luck with your goal and know that here are LOTS of us cheering you on and joining you in spirit.

HA! I just picked up three South Beach Diet Cookbooks from the library this afternoon. My husband and I are not exactly overweight~both within 5 or 10 pounds of what we'd like to be, but SB worked for us in 2005 and we are ready to try it again starting 1/1. He wants to drop a size to fit in his Size 32s and I want to drop a size to fit in my size 4s comfortably again. I also joined Jazzercise and while I actually didn't lose weight since joining it, I do like it for the fun and how it makes me feel afterwards. We both exercise and walk after dinner, so for us it is controlling our portion sizes and the picking on junk food while watching TV at night. We know what we have to do....we know what will work....we just need to DO IT!!

I too joined weight watchers in March of 2011 down 30 lbs I joined because I was tired and sluggish. I could not run the hallways at work because my knees hurt so much you see I am a emergency nurse and I have to get on the floor many times to care for my patients. I feel so much better now and love it. I am still loosing and joined a ZUMBA class so much fun and so much energy. It is not able being thin it is about being comfortable and healty feeling good. Liking what you see in the mirror. I have more to loose and will continue it has changed my whole way of eating thinking. Love the points haha

I also need to lose weight. What does weight watchers cost?

Now is the best time to join WW (or start watching what you eat) I joined WW last year and lost about 40 pounds, but I still have some to go. I really like the plan as it is sensible and still allows "treats". That being said, seems like I have hit a major plateau and it's driving me crazy. For me it's just the afternoon snacking that kills me. (so why do I keep doing it??) I am trying to be better, and have upped my exercise in an effort to get back on track. Slowly but surely. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Mindi, I too have struggled with my weight all of my life. I am 40 years old and @ 170 lbs. My goal weight is @ 140. I had reached my goal 5 years ago, even went down to 138, but when I got married in 2008 everything changed. My husband and I both love to eat but he's a very unhealthy eater so I found myself eating all the wrong things and falling back into old habits. All the while i'm cringing inside because I know how hard it was to get the weight off. Now i'm back at my plateau weight and am going to be working hard to loose at least 20 pounds by June. When I lost before I used the deit pill Phentermine which has alot of side effects, so this time i'm going to do it naturally - just exercise and eating right. Let's motivate each other however we need too to make this work.
Angela
Thanks for this post! I need to get motivated and start to lose my weight. I just had my 3rd child and feel out of shape and 50lbs overweight. I have tried weight watchers in the past and lost some weight but never stuck to it. Maybe now is the time to make some goals and stick to it!

I too am FAT! 😉 I have to loose 70 pounds that came back quickly after I had a 100 pound weight loss. It sickens me that I gained that much back. Yes it is my resolution to loose those 70 pounds like you. I started a diet monitored by my doctor, B12 injections once a month, appetite suppresent called Phentermine, and no carb diet. I started this before Halloween and have lose 38 pounds so far. But....the holidays are here and I'm gorging myself because I'm making the excuse that i will start again on Jan. 2, 2012. (As I sit here stuffing my face with cashews). My family and I are going to join the YMCA on Jan. 2 so I'll loose the weight faster. We can surely pack on the pounds fast can't we? LOL! I just want to say good luck and I know you can do it! You're a strong person and if you feel week, don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi Melanie,
I just read your post and saw that you're taking Phentermine. How do you like it so far? I've had great results with it but it does have side effects. I loved the energy it gave me and it totally suppressed my appetite. Also I was wondering how the b12 shots work - do they give you energy, suppress your appetite, or both? You can definitely loose the weight, especially with the Phentermine. Keeping it off seems more difficult for me. Thanks.

I'm 45 lbs overweight, I need to lose it!!! My husband was just diagnosed with diabetes and we're working on losing it together, he was told if he lost 10-20 lbs he may be taken off his meds, but he'll always have to watch his eating habits. I've never actually made a plan to lose weight, I'd love to join weight watchers but am unsure if I can afford it. My Mother-in-law lost a great deal of weight on WW and has given me tips and tricks I'll incorporate into my plan. I'd like to say I'm looking forward to joining you in this endevour, but I'm scared to death!

Hi Mindy,
I'm so proud of you for putting yourself out there. I've gained almost 40 lbs since getting married 9 years ago. I was always really thin growing up so now when my family and friends see me the first thing they remark on is my way. When I look in the mirror, I don't recognize myself. When I look down in the shower, I wonder "whose body that is?". I hope you continue this group, I need the encouragement!
