Fight the Frump Friday, Part II/III!

    by Mindi Cherry

    FacebookPinEmail

It's week 2 of Fight the Frump, but this is my first week.  Does that make this post "FtF Part Two"?  It can't be because that would mean that it was my second week, wouldn't it? And "FtF Part Three" would mean that I am a week ahead of everyone else.  How about "FtF, Week Two Part Two"  (how about "It doesn't friggin' matter!  Just get to the point!"?)

One of the cool things about Fight the Frump is the many other participants and getting to read what they wrote.  Melody at Eternal Sunshine of An Empty Mind wrote about coloring her hair this week, and since I already committed to writing next week about how wearing push-up bras and crotchless panties (well, maybe not the panties) is the key to non-frump, I thought I would mention my absolute all-time favorite hair-color-care product that I just discovered a few months ago.

It's this stuff.   L'Oreal ARTec Color Depositing Shampoo.  You can find it at beauty salons and online (but not at Target or "mainstream drugstores...I looked!).  It used to be just called ARTec, but L'Oreal recently bought the company, so if you go to/call a salon, ask under both names.  Once you find the right color for your hair (I use Sunflower, the color for "warm blonde"), it's way cheaper to buy it online (and even cheaper if, like me, you have a good friend who owns her own hair salon and can get it for you wholesale!)

What is it?  I call it my "root rescue".  Although I color my own hair (usually at 5:00am on a Tuesday), I sometimes get so busy that I don't notice that the roots are getting a bit long until I go to my sister's house for a Labor Day party and she says "Gee Min, I had no idea that you had so much grey...do you think it's a good idea to go back to your natural hair color?"  (Not that I was embarassed that day or anything....).

Then I found this stuff and although I still sometimes wait a bit too long between colorings (even when I'm NOT pregnant I need to do it every 4 weeks...my hair grows very fast) my haircolor does not fade between colorings and the roots are much less noticeable.  All you need to do is use about a dime-size amount as a "second shampooing" (you know - the "repeat" part) every other time you wash your hair.  Then you just follow up with your regular conditioner.

Oh - this stuff will really only be a Godsend if you are like me and only color your hair to cover the grey and because you now have "old hair" (the kind that has absolutely NO body unlesss it is colored).  If you have black hair that you are coloring platinum blonde, then this probably will not help you (and you likely aren't a Fussy-reader anyway!)

Oooh! I got a mention on someone's blog!! I tell you that Fussy is a MIRACLE worker - I had more look-sees last Friday than I ever could have imagined!!

This shampoo sounds awesome. I have the root problem, cause I'm a bum, and I always let the coloring go too long. I also have these crazy gray hairs tht refuse to accept color no matter how long I leave the junk on. Mayne this would help with that?

Thanks for mentioning me! I like this idea!!

Can I just embrace the frump? Some days it feels so good.

"and you aren't a fussy reader anyway"
I almost fell off my chair. LOL!

Great post. I can not wait to try it.

Thank you so much for joining in. It means so much to me.

      Love, Fussy

Does it work if you haven't colored your hair in over a year? My roots are taking over HELP ME...

My goodness I have a lot of comments to catch up on!

Melody - this stuff really is pretty great. It won't work miracles, but I always have a problem with fading color and I swear that it doesn't fade as fast ever since I started using the ARTec!

Sarabeth - you can embrace the frump each day from 5:43am to 6:27am....or if you are sick....or it's Groundhogs Day. I don't judge anyone for embracing the frump. It's just not anything I will do.

Fussy - glad to be joining in...this is fun! (even though "The Power of Fussy" gave me more comments in one day than I can keep up with...not that I'm complaining or anything!)

Johina: if it's been a year you may want to spend the $7 at Target and buy a box of hair color. It's no big deal - just do what I do: get up at 5:30am and color your hair (it's the only time that I can be assured that EVERYONE will stay asleep until I'm done)

Bethando - I daresay that your husbnad/SO will be looking forward to it as well!

Great product. I am pretending that the grays are not sneaking in, but it is a losing battle. I am getting this product!
