    Get a room!

    by Mindi Cherry

Kelly at Ordinary Artis a tricky little chickie.  Instead of tagging people, she just waits 'til you finish reading her post and says "if you read this whole thing, you're tagged".  And because I'm sorely lacking for content today an honest sort of woman, I must comply.

So here you go - a meme all about me and my long-suffering husband:

    1.  Where/how did you meet?  He picked me up at a bar about 45 minutes after I had broken up with a guy.  I had been deemed "nailable" by his fraternity brothers on account of being on the rebound

    2.  How long have you known each other?  17.5 years

    3.  How long after you met did you start dating?  depends on what "dating" means.  We were making out on the oh-so-clean fraternity house sofa a few hours later, but our first official date was 2 nights later (he was 27 minutes late picking me up that night, by the way....not that I hold grudges or anything)

    4.  How long did you date before you got engaged?  just under 3 years.  Of course, we moved in together a year before that because I am nothing if not easy.  Actually, it was a 2 bedroom condo and I did have much of my stuff in the 2nd bedroom for appearances sake (and because I ran out of closet space in our bedroom)

    5.  How long was your engagement?  Only 13 months.  We got engaged July of 1993 and were married August 1994

    6.  How long have you been married?  13.5 years.  the best 13.5 years of his life

    7.  When is your anniversary?  August 6th...also my mother's birthday.  For a while there I was guaranteed roses on my anniversary because my ex-stepfather was stalking my mom and would send her roses on her birthday.  Brad would go pick them up and give them to me.  If that isn't romance, then you tell me what is!

    8.  How many people came to your reception?  About 120

    9.  What kind of cake did you serve?  Yellow pound cake with raspberry filling.  boring but delicious

    10.  Where was your wedding?  We got married in an old barn that had been converted to a catering hall.  Winding wrought-iron staircases, floral country wallpaper....very country/1990s/puke-inducing.  Funnily, I now live less than a mile from it.  When we got married it was a half-hour drive.

    11.  What did you serve for the meal?  some kind of chicken.  I probably should have eaten more of it or I wouldn't have been so shit-faced at my own wedding.

    12.  How many people were in your bridal party?  we each had 4 attendants

    13.  Are you still friends with all of them?  His were all family, so yes.  I haven't seen or heard from my two non-family attendants in over a decade

    14.  Did your spouse cry during the ceremony?  I have never in my life seen him cry.

    15.  Most special moment from your wedding day?  Dancing with my father.  As we were dancing, he whispered in my ear that I was his favorite daughter.  Of course, I later found out that he told my sister the same thing on her wedding day, but it was nice to hear at the time.  Oh yeah - there was also that whole thing about being pronounced man & wife (with Brad, not my father)

    16.  Any funny moments?  We knew it was coming, but didn't tell anyone else about it.  Brad's fraternity brothers had a dance that they did at all college formals and weddings where they dance in a circle to "Louie, Louie".  About halfway through the song, they all drop their pants so that they are dancing in their boxers.  We just asked the band to wait until my grandmother had gone home before they played that song.

    17.  Any big disasters?  That would be me.  I ate next to nothing and then chugged lots of champagne.  Nothing says "class" like a falling-down-drunk bride.  I still can't believe that my in-laws didn't have annulment papers prepared for Brad to sign when we returned from our honeymoon!  At least Brad was just as drunk as me!

    18.  Where did you go on your honeymoon?  The Windjammer Landing resort in St. Lucia.

    19.  How long were you gone?  Just a week

    20.  If you were to do your wedding over, what would you change?  Aside from not getting shit-faced, very little.

    21.  What side of the bed do you sleep on?  The right 1/75th of the bed.  That's all anyone gives me

    22.  What size is your bed?  It's a king size which we need because the population of our bed doubles every night at 2:00am.  As soon as The Queen figures out how to climb out of her crib we may need to get a California King

    23.  Greatest strength as a couple?  Our complete and total commitment to staying together as a happy family.  Oh yeah - and we're both pretty good in the sack

    24.  Greatest challenge as a couple?  Let's just say that I like to shop way more than he does.

    25.  Who literally pays the bills?  My husband brings in the money and I spend it/write the checks.  As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be...world without end. Amen.

    26.  What is your song?  "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton.  Original, no?

    27.  What did you dance your first dance to?  If you are talking about at our wedding, it was "Wonderful Tonight".  The first time we ever danced?  It was to "Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC....another song that just oozes romance.

    28.  Describe your wedding dress.  White, long, beaded.  It was a friggin' dress that I only wore for a few hours...who cares?  My shoes on the other hand, were the most beautiful and amazing shoes ever created.  I think I hit 5'6" that day!

    29.  What kind of flowers did you have at your wedding?  Lilies everywhere

    30.  Are your wedding bands engraved?  no - I don't need my wedding date written on my ring to remind me who I married and when.

That was one long-ass meme.  In the spirit of Kelly, I'm not tagging anyone specifically.  If you read this whole thing, just consider yourself tagged!

(oh - and hey - that "permission required for use" thing on the picture?  does that apply to using it on a blog, or just if I want to reproduce it for selling crap?)
