Well, I wasn't really herding cats. It was 16 First Graders. Same thing, really.
For some insane reason, I signed up to help out with the First Grade Act for the annual Variety show at my son's school. Note: I said "help".
So what happened at the first organizational meeting? The HeadHonchos declared that we had too many first graders signed up to have them all in one act and "hey! There are 2 first grade moms who signed up to help. Let's split the first graders in to 2 groups and have each mom be in charge of a group!"
That is how I went from helping to leading.
So what does that entail? Picking a song, coming up with a dance to go with that song, teaching the song and dance to 20 6-7 year-olds, deciding on costume and props and getting those costume and props done.
Sounds easy, right? And it's not like I have anything else to do with my life like being a mom, running a house and business, being president of a club or just trying to preserve my sanity!
I decided to pick a song that I thought would be catchy, that had a great beat and that the parents would recognize. My first suggestion of "Baby Got Back" was not well received. Next best thing? "Best Day Ever" by SpongeBob. Basically the same song.
What I didn't count on is that dancing in that gymnasium in jeans a turtleneck and a sweater would turn me in to a sweatball. Or that I would be out of breath when it was done (I am so out of shape, I make Homer Simpson look like....a really sexy athlete who doesn't take steroids. Are there any out there?).
Or that I would spend 1 hour listening to Spongebob sing the same 88 seconds over and over and over and over and over.
But at least I got some exercise....and will each Monday night. And hey - as a bonus, Tuesday is my weigh-in day. Maybe I burned off an ounce or two!
