    Liver, meet pickle fork

    by Mindi Cherry

    Remember this post?

    Well, Hypothetically speaking...

If due to the children being sick for the 3,578,987th time this winter Wife decided to "crockpot it" by making another of Husband's favorite dishes...

And if Wife was finally allowed to get up off the sofa by her sick children, and walked in to the kitchen....

And when Wife did that, she found Husband with the lid off the crockpot, a fork in one hand and a slice of bread in another...

And if Wife once again yelled at Husband to leave.the.crockpot.the.hell.alone while it is cooking...

And if Husband proclaimed himself a culinary expert and informed the Wife that he knew the chicken was ready because it shredded so easily and proudly showed Wife the crockpot full of what was supposed to be Mexican Chicken Thighs but was now just a big mess of chicken shreds, salsa and corn....

And when Wife informed him that he ruined it and reminded him that she uses the crockpot for more than cooking meats that are to be shredded.....

And Husband once again said "What do you care?  You aren't going to eat it anyway!".....

Should Wife use the stainless steel or the sterling silver pickle fork to remove his liver?

Definitely stainless... less chance of pitting. Silver is a smidge softer metal, and stainless holds an edge longer.

I am going to go with the Silver - it will make a better news story: "Wife uses the GOOD silver to sliver spouse's liver".

He just doesn't seem to learn...

      Both for a lasting impression!

I think she should go with stainless, easier to sterilize. He probably would have been wearing the crockpot too after his remark about her not eating it and I probably would have retorted, "Well neither are you, so you better get take-out".

      Stainless.

Well, both would have to be hand washed afterwards, so I would go with the stainless steel.

I say tell him to make his own meals from now on. That will fix him.

      Or the electric carving knife.

I say stainless - it can be sanitized easier for the next time. Silver you would have to hand polish.

I tell you there just aren't enough occasions to use pickle forks - I am glad you are creating some new ones!

(You might also want to mention to the dear spouse that if he keeps it up, his food will no longer be shredded, it will be pureed as that is the only way he will be able to ingest it.)

Oh, and would you be enjoying that liver with fava beans and nice Chianti?

Actually, I ended up threatening him with only cooking him vegetarian meals from now on.

That threat should hold...until the next time I pul out the crockpot!
