It's Fight the Frump Friday, sponsored by Fussy and today we are going to talk about our shoes (although I have a bit of a hangover, so please talk quietly)
Have I mentioned that I am a hobbit? That I am only 5'2"? That last night my 16-year old nephew used my head as an armrest? I have? Great!
Because I am so short, it is rare that you will catch me without me wearing at least a 2" heel. Boots, sandals, slides, you name it. Matter of fact, the only non-heel shoes that I own are my bucks (which I wear on Monday nights to teach 17 first-graders their dance routine in the gym) and somewhere I think that I have a few pairs of sneakers. I guess if I exercised I would know where they are...but since I am allergic to exercise I couldn't tell you.
Of course, there is the obvious question: "How can you be a mom and run after your children in heels?". It's simple: you get used to it. I remember when I first starting watching "Sex and the City" and saw Sarah running through NYC in her heels and thinking "how can she do that?". She was used to it!
The next question: "why would I WANT to wear heels?".
For me, there is the obvious reason of being able to reach the lightswitch. Aside from that, I notice that my posture is much better when I am wearing heels. I feel like a grown-up, and not such a schlub. And while I am sitting here at 10:00am typing this in my pj pants and Pooh sweatshirt, in about 10 minutes I am getting in the shower, getting dressed and putting on my fuck-me boots. I may still be a little green around the gills, but those shoes will instantly transform my mood from "get away from me I have a hangover" to "ok - let's dye some eggs and have a great day!"
I would take a picture of my shoes, but I am still in Baltimore...so I've shown you some shoes that are on my wish-list for Spring. And of course, they are all from Coldwater Creek, as I have an unhealthy obsession deep love for that store. There was also a really cute pair of purple slides that, for some reason, I couldn't get the picture on here.....but every girl needs a pair of purple shoes!
So spend a few days walking around in some heels. I find that aside from boots, I tend to buy slides more than anything else. Once you get used to them, you'll thank me for it!
Oh - one last thing. Unless you are really good at dancing around a pole, stay away from the clear heels!

A guy I work with brought his toothless girlfriend to the office party, she wore clear heels. Just thought I'd mention it.

You have much better balance then I do. I have a lot more winter shoes with heels--boots, etc. then summer. It is true that you get used to them!

I'm 5'2" as well and although I do wear heels quite often (including during the day) I also have some cute flats that I like. I guess I'm just used to being short so flats are fine too!
I'm glad to hear a good report on Coldwater Creek shoes. I always admire their shoes but I've never bought any from them.

I would have NEVER guessed you were 5'2" - I'm 5'5".
I LOVE Cold Watercreek too (in a really sadistic kind of way - I mean I almost DROOL when I get their catalog) - infact I have a picture of a pink trench coat hanging on my bulletin board that I have been trying to find for less than (their) $90 price tag. *sigh*
Oh as for shoes...I have fibromyalgia, heels aren't gunna happen, but I am all about "sassy" shoes. =)

I wore a new pair of shoes to work yesterday, and I noticed I felt taller (A LOT taller - even thought they weren't THAT much of a heel) I decided it must be my posture. Now I know!
Heels make me take smaller steps, which put more wiggle in my step, which my husband really likes.
Besides, I just feel sassier in heels!!
Great post, thanks!

Let's hear it for the heelz! I am stuck in flats until I push out this baby... but by the time summer hits you bet I'll be sliding into my strappy sandals!

With the exception of my sequin sandals and my gym shoes, I try to always wear elevated shoes of some sort in public...I'm 5'5.5" and I've always felt like I should have been 5'7". The shoes help.

Okay, I came back JUST FOR YOU to give you my "inside scoop" (I'll be posting about it on my blog soon). I found the PERFECT trench coat at the Goodwill today while I was dropping off our old clothes.
It's a London Fog in light blue....you'll never guess how much I paid. NOPE! Guess again. 😀

I'm 5'3" and should probably wear heels more often, but I don't. I'm trying, I'm trying!

Thank You, Thank You!! Someone who finally gets exactly what I am saying. I posted about shoes a couple of weeks ago also and talked about heels. Oh and the FMB's at work we have FMP's. Our receptionist wears them all the time.

I just bought some super cute and comfortable Franco Sarto Wedges. They make me feel like a million bucks. Did I mention that they are comfortable?

I'm also 5'2 and my thing is clogs and slides with heels. They go with jeans but make me at least 5'4 - does that count?

Mea Culpa... Mea Culpa...
I love shoes - I SWEAR I love shoes. But the only shoes my very round 5'2" self can actually wear are crocs. My feet are spoiled. It is terrible. I just can't stand anything else on my feet.
Hey - they're slides - right?? LOL...
