Why I suck and so does Weight Watchers.

    by Mindi Cherry

    FacebookPinEmail

Scene:  yesterday morning at 11:00am as I arrive home from Weight Watchers.  Brad is home FINALLY installing the new steps (yes - I've been walking up and down on sub-flooring stairs for a few weeks now.  The hallways have been done for a while)

    Brad:  how was Weight Watchers?

    Me:  Weight Watchers sucks

Hubs:  you gained back that half-pound from last week, didn't you?

Me:  Weight Watchers sucks.  I suck.  I'm going back to Points

Hubs:  What are we having for dinner tonight?

Me:  I'm eating nothing but air for the rest of my life.  Weight Watchers sucks.

Hubs:  Do you think it could have been the potato skins that you ate last night as a snack?

Me:  They were Core!  They were low-sodium.

Hubs:  but you ate the equivalent of 2 potatoes.

    Me:  oh yeah...ok....Core sucks.

    Hubs:  going to Points?

    Me:  yep

My Weight Watchers journey (this time) is getting almost comical.  Next week will be 1 year since I have re-joined and what do I have to show for it?  A net loss of 3 pounds (thank you Christmas PigOut of 2007).  Over 52 weeks.  At $14/week.  I would do the math, but that would give Brad more ammunition in the commitment hearings when he finally wakes up and realizes he is married to a lunatic.

What's that you say?  If I would just stop drinking the vino and start exercising and eat the right foods, then I would finally lose those last 15 pounds and be at Goal?   Yeah...... and if wishes were airplanes I'd still have a fat ass (or some sort of comeback that makes sense)

What kills me is this:  remember that I mentioned that BestFriendMommy made Goal last week?  Do you know how she did it?  By eating about 10 points a day and drinking the rest of her points in Yuengling.  Then again, she is from Germany, so maybe in German WW meetings they tell you to drink 6-8 beers per day instead of water? (note to self:  look in to having Brad transferred to Germany).  What kills me even more is that she currently weighs 12 pounds MORE than me and is at Goal.  Sure, she is a good 5 inches taller than me (who isn't?), but still.......

So I'm back on Points.  Weight Watchers sucks.  I suck.

Unless I get to Goal. Then Weight Watchers will be the bestest most wonderfulest thing in the world.  At this rate it should only cost another $80,000.00.

BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....sorry but lately that has been the feeling that I have had too. Regardless of points, the ping pong thing has happened more and more to me and it truly does suck. In my case, (1) I'm peri-menopausal so my metabolism has seriously slowed (I KNOW you DIDN'T ASK!), (2) I just found out (after a whole year of tests) that I have rheumatoid arthritis to boot, so I can't really eat even normal portions unless I exercise but when I exercise it's like feeling like a truck ran me over. So where does this leave me?! Trying to eat healthy, not worry about the points but the nutrient value (portion control has never been my problem) and trying to exercise when I can without pain. Bottom line is that it all sucks if we let it suck so, "Here's to Eating Air and Drinking Vino!".

I can totally relate! I recently dropped out of WW after going for a year. Yes, I lost 24 lbs but I did that in the first 3 months and then kept toying with the same 1-2 lbs the rest of the year. It's very discouraging. I'm trying the exercise route now. So far in 3 weeks I've lost a few inches, but haven't dropped a pound. It's hard to remain positive when stuff like this keeps happening. I am not asking to be model thin, just average. It also sucks to be short, there's nowhere else for the extra weight to go except to my ass!

That's an expensive 3 lbs! Let's make a deal.. I'll charge you $10 a week, saving you $48 a year, to remind you to eat right and get off your butt. Let me know if that works for you!

My friends got me all excited about doing WW online because they were dropping weight like crazy. I started and nothing happened. I kept track of everything I ate. Nothing happened. Then I gained weight and I cried.

Fast forward 1 year. I got a personal trainer. I dropped 3 lbs the first week and then gained 2 lbs the next. I trained and did the online WW thing again and nothing happened. Then my jerk of a boss became verbally abusive, embarrassed me in front of a large group of people, threatened to fire me, and said she didn't like the results of my personality test.

For a month I sustained life on Popsicles, Jell-o, Gatorade, and Xanax and low and behold the weight came off! Of course my hair started falling out, too. So right now I'm thinking go back to WW or not?

You don't know me from a hill of beans, but I ran across your blog and had to comment. I, too, think Weight Watchers SUCKS. Last year, I just watched what I ate with the help of my now ex-boyfriend, worked out a little bit, and dropped 18 pounds like it was nothing. Post-breakup with said boy I gained 26 pounds, so I joined Weight Watchers thinking it would be the best thing ever.

Here I sit, 14 weeks later, 5 pounds HEAVIER than when I started the blasted program. I drink all of my water, have no problem eating all of my fruits and veggies (I'm a semi-vegetarian), I exercise 4 times a week. And I gain weight. So they look through my journal and say "Oh, you shouldn't have had that glass of wine." or "Oh, that small little helping of creme brulee...nope." Even though I've allotted those into my points and am not going over my points. Oh, and let's not forget the comments that I should only eat "real" food. I don't eat the WW Smart Ones because of the high sodium. I do eat veggie burgers and frozen veggies, but apparently those aren't "real" enough and are making me gain about 2 pounds/week on average.

I've had good weeks where I lose 3.6 pounds, and then the next week I gain 5 pounds. But they keep saying "Oh, you're doing something wrong, because the program WORKS. It's not the program."

      I call total B.S.

Just had to share my frustrations with the program as well!

I've spent thousands of dollars over the years in the pursuit of weight loss, with the net result that I ended up fatter than ever.

And yet? I'm back in Weight Watchers again. However, I think I'm taking a more flexible approach than I used to, which is making it easier to live with.

You don't suck! It's just damn hard changing our food preferences and portions.

I keep going back to Weight Watchers for a few reasons:

I know it works. It worked for me very well after I had Prince #1. I was a mere 1.5 lbs from goal (after dropping about 50 lbs)when I got pregnant with Prince #2. I didn't go back on after Prince #2 because we started trying for The Queen almost immediately after Prince #2 was born.

When I become "Super Duper No-Cheating Weight Watchers member", I drop the weight. But being that means giving up certain things and since I am no longer nursing I WANT THAT BOOZE 😉

AND, considering all the money I have given them over the years, I will.not.stop until I get that Gold Lifetime Card. I want it. I need it. I will have it!

I've lost almost 50 lbs on weight watchers so far. I've lost both on core and points. When I follow the program, I lose. For a bunch of months last year, I "kind of" followed the program, and didn't lose (I yoyo-ed all summer and fall). Go figure. Now I am following it exactly, and I am losing again...

I would like to ask you ladies a question. My metabolic type is protein, which means that if I don't get enough protein in my diet I feel sick and weak. I've switched over to eating as little protein as I can get by with, and that has as little fat as possible, but, as you know, protein is high in points (that and fat). I have found I cannot get by on 18 points per day. What happens is, I can't fall asleep at night if I haven't had enough protein. I also notice that in spite of doing a lot of exercise every single night, I am not losing weight either. Is this pretty common? Are there some people who just don't do well with WW because of their protein needs?

Funny how everyone here says WW sucks, but you have all reported loosing weight. If your in a rut, try changing up the foods you eat, stop eating the same thing all the time.

      Best of Luck
      WW is great!!

when i first started ww I was 292lbs. I dropped 100 pounds pretty quickly. I dropped more weight on my own, got pregnant. I gained more weight and with weight watchers and on my own dropped the weight again, then got pregnant again. I"m not 282lbs and afraid to lose weight for fearing of making another baby! LOL but I"m still using ww and in the first week lost 10lbs following it exactly. Then I've been sort of following it for a few more weeks and haven't lost any 🙁 I love weight watchers 🙂

I have done weight watchers in the past and it does indeed work. My personal problem with the program is the strict calorie counting. Now if you don't cook and can live off TV dinners and other products that list the calories and serving sizes, you will have no problem with WW. BUT if you DO cook, it's literally impossible to figure out how many calories are in the meals you create. The same goes for dining out, it's IMPOSSIBLE to determine what the calories are in a meal and how much you should eat. It pisses me off so much. It's the reason why I end up splurging and abandoning the program.

Yes, WW does work...it has worked for me...but was it really worth going to bed starving?
