Coupon or Qu-pon? An Informal Survey

    by Mindi Cherry

    FacebookPinEmail

So here's a fun quick question....

Before we had Coupon, I never realized that I said "both ways".

But we call my puppy Coupon, not Qu-pon.

Neither one is wrong...but which one do you say?

I grew up saying Qu-pon, but my husband made fun of me enough, so now I mostly say coupon. It's still more fun to say qu-pon. 🙂

      I don't understand the difference?

I also think I said "Q-pon" as a child, but now it feels funny saying it that way. I say "coo-pon."

@Angela, you can here both pronunciations if you go to m-w.com and look up the definition!

I totally meant "hear" not "here" -- I do know the difference!

Definitely coo-pon. It comes from a French word "couper," meaning "to cut."

I have always said "coo-pon" but I know my grandmother says "q-pon"

I say "coupon", and I'm pretty sure I twitch a little when someone around me says "q-pon." annon has the best pronunciation in my book.

Its definately Qu-pon! I think is a regional thing, but in the south we'd look at ya kinda funny if we heard you say coo-pon! 🙂
