Expired Coupons - where do you send them?

    by Mindi Cherry

    FacebookPinEmail

This time it is me looking for info from you!

It seems like every week I am pulling expired coupons out of my coupon binder and throwing them in the recycling bin.  I've heard that Military Commissaries allow the use of expired coupons and there are places where you can send those coupons to help out our brave men & women in the Military and their families.

However, I do recognize that there is a HUGE amount of money to be made in processing coupons fraudulently and I don't want to rely on a Google search to find somewhere to send them.

Does anyone know of a legitimate place to send your expired coupons?

Overseas commissaries may accept MFC for up to six months after the expiration date. I suggest getting enough to stick in a flat-rate envelope.

You will need to have a specific person's name on the envelope (such as the store manager). I haven't had luck finding a good site to link to - a lot of old information out there.

Try http://www.ocpnet.org/ for an overveiw of an overseas military base coupon adoption program. My family unofficially adopted a base from this list about a year ago. I never signed up; I just started sending my expired coupons.
You'll find addresses for many bases as well as general information about what's acceptable.
You don't necessarily need a person's name if you have that person's title. For example, the person who is the Volunteer Coordinator may change, but that position will still be there.
You'll need to fill out a customs form at the post office. Just write "coupons" on it. You don't need to determine a dollar amount.
It doesn't cost any more to send an envelope of coupons across the globe than it does to send one across town.

I use the Coupons for Troops program that's run by Toni at The Happy Housewife. It's a lot simpler than other ones out there because you just send the coupons off without having to count them or separate them.
