Why I love Acme, Part Deux

    by Mindi Cherry

    FacebookPinEmail

When I realized that my coupons for V8 Splash expired today and that they were part of a great deal at Acme, I made sure to put Acme on my to-do list.  Here's how it broke down (and yes - I did these all at self-checkout so as not to hold up the only manned checkout):

Transactions #1 & 2 (I did the same deal twice)

    • 8 Pretzelfills @ $2.50 (regular price is $4.29)
    • Less 8 $.75 Pretzelfills coupons (doubled)
    • Less $6 instant savings

    Total before all savings:  $34.32

    Total OOP:  $2.00

    Transaction #3

    • 2 Pretzelfills @ $2.50 (regular price is $4.29)
    • 2 V8 Splash $2.50 (regular price is $4.19)
    • Less:  $½ V8 Splash
    • Less 2 $.75 Pretzelfills coupons (doubled)
    • Less $3 instant savings

    Total before all savings:  $17.21

    Total OOP:  $3.24

    Transaction 4

    • 3 Ronzoni Bistro @ $2 (regular price is $2.79)
    • 3 Atkins Advantage Bars @ $1 (regular price is $2.79)
    • 1 Zone Perfect Bar at $1 (regular price is $1.49)
    • Less 3 $1 Ronzoni Coupons
    • Less 3 $1 Atkins Bars coupons
    • Less $1 Zone Perfect coupon (these were limit 1 per transaction, so I had to split up my Zone Perfect bars)
    • Less $3 instant savings

    Total before all savings:  $18.23

    Total OOP:  $1.00

    Transaction 5

    • 1 Ronzoni Bistro @ $2 (regular price is $2.79)
    • 2 V8 Splash @ $2.50 (regular price is $4.19)
    • 1 Zone Nutrition Bar @ $1 (regular price is $1.49)
    • 2 Atkins Advantage Bars @ $1 (regular price is $2.79)
    • Less $½ V8 Splash coupon
    • Less $1 Ronzoni coupon
    • Less 2 $1 Atkins coupons
    • Less $1 Zone Perfect coupon
    • Less $3 instant savings

    Total before all savings:  $18.48

    Total OOP:  $2.24

    Transaction 6

    • 1 Ronzoni Bistro @ $2 (regular price is $2.79)
    • 2 V8 Splash @ $2.50 (regular price is $4.19)
    • 2 Atkins Advantage Bars @ $1 (regular price is $2.79)
    • 1 ZonePerfect Bar at $1 (regular price is $1.49)
    • Less $1 Ronzoni coupon
    • Less $½ V8 Splash coupon
    • Less 2 $1 Atkins coupons
    • Less $1 ZonePerfect coupon
    • Less $3 instant savings

    Total before all savings:  $18.48

    Total OOP:  $2.24

Total value of everything (before coupons and sale prices):  $106.72

    Total paid:  $10.72

Did I need to split this up in to 6 different transactions (which did require more time at the checkout)?  No, but I had heard rumors that the registers were glitching on certain items and not giving all the $3 instant savings.  By splitting it up, I was able to keep careful track of my transactions (and in one case, the $3 didn't come off and they had to manually enter it)

WTG! I did a total of 4 transactions at 3 stores today, with 6 of the instant $3 savings. Out of pocket just over $3. Which included a serious jackpot on managers special meats in the local store, and some of the elusive glades in the KOP store.

      Thanks Diane!

But I just looked at my receipts and realized that one of my coupons didn't scan or got lost one of the times she opened up the self-scan to check my coupons....it was annoying...look for a companion rant about Viryl Marketing on this site soon, because I had 4 people hovering aroung the cashier station at the self-checkout. They didn't say anything but I know that they were unthrilled with me getting so much for so little.....and it's all the fault of those jerks at Viryl Marketing and the scam that they tried to pull!

      I guess it's a good thing they haven't got the Lipton Diet Teas in yet. I have a raincheck for 20 of them at 10 for $10 and I have 20 $.50/1 AND 10 B2G1F coupons....that's 30 free ices teas! 😉

K.Anne: I swear that this is the reason that the Limerick store hasn't re-stocked the Diet yet....I've been finding these coupons for months and they haven't given me a problem with using them a a combo, but they do have to be overridden (although the one time they didn't, I think it was because I handed them all the B2G1's first and then the $.50/1....so the computer recognized that I had the required number of items for the B2G1 and then it started taking off the $.50/1.....

And yeah - Genuardi's just isn't worth the hassle any more...especially with the checkers they have at that store in the daytime!

When you use the $.50/1 and B2G1F together for the teas, it's not going to let it go through and will beep. Whichever coupons they run through first, the second kind will beep. I have had it happen to me at the Limerick & Phoenixville stores.

Then you have to exaplin how you are allowed to use them together since the B2G1F coupon is taken off the price of the third item and not the first two. I always use the example of "If it was a $1 on 3, I wouldn't be able to use it, but the only stipulation to using the coupon on the 3rd item is that you have to purchase xyz product in order to get this one free, therefore you can still use a coupon on xyz product." They just have to get someone to use the key on the register.

I am known as the "problem" customer there due to my coupons. Well, there and Genuardi's.

Wow, do you really buy all that processed food, just to save a couple of bucks? If that cute little boy was mine, I wouldn't feed him any of all that garbage full of HFCS, preservatives, artificial colors and chemicals.

Why not just shop the outer aisles for unprocessed food? It'll be just as cheap, and with the time you save from all the coupon clipping, collecting and posting, you could actually cook a few wholesome meals for your family.

This blog is scary. No wonder our health insurance costs are so high. You are what you eat.
