Something has come over me the past 24 hours. Perhaps it was the smell of Rainsinette-laced vomit. Perhaps it was because Brad wore his 501s yesterday that make his butt look so cute. It could be because it is the first time in almost a month that I do't have to walk around on sub-flooring. Or it could have been that blow to the head I took yesterday (note to self - next time don't let The Queen walk around with a baseball bat), but I'm feeling all romantic and happy and squinchy today. And since this feeling doesn't come along often, I figured I could exploit it in to a blog post!
Since nobody ever tags me, I'm making up my own Romance Meme like Allison did.
1. What is your favorite romantic movie?
When I think romance, there is one movie that always comes to mind first. It's "Somewhere In Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Aside from the absolutely haunting score, the basic premise of the movie is something I think every woman wishes for: a non-psycho who falls so in love with a her that he travels back in time 60 years to meet her. And being so in love with a man that you will wait 60 years just to see him one more time before she dies......although I guess today they would have slapped each other with mutual restraining orders!
2. Aside from any song that you may have or have had with your significant other, what is the most romantic song you have ever heard?
For almost 20 years, the song for me has been "Somebody" by DePeche Mode (not a remix version, the version on 1985s "Catching Up With DePeche Mode"). But this weekend, I finally watched Once and THIS one is seriously in the running:

(note - it might be this movie that did it to me)
3. Roses: romantic?
I'm not a big fan of roses. I prefer flowers that last longer and fill up an entire home with their scent (especially stargazer lillies). Besides, they are about ⅓ the cost (and I'm very cheap)
4. Valentines Day: the most romantic day of the year or just another day?
While I do appreciate that Hubby always brings me flowers that day (and he thinks that buying flowers is the biggest waste of money, it is huge that he buys them at all) I see Valentines Day as something for young kids. If after 17.5 years together we need a special day to let each other know that we love each other, then....well - you figure it out.
5. Your ideal romantic dinner?
Creme Brulee, lobster (no butter), steamed asparagus and champagne with just a splash of Chambord with 3 floating raspberries (served in a Waterford flute, of course). Served picnic-style in front of our fireplace (with a roaring fire) at 10:00pm while a blizzard is going on outside. (I know - I get real picky sometimes.)
6. What is the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you?
My husband bought me a diamond tennis bracelet for our 5-year anniversary. Because I wore it so much but neglected to clean it, one day it just broke in half. I kept meaning to get it fixed but didn't and it sat in a drawer for a year. Then on the way to the hospital to deliver Prince #2 he handed me a box. He had taken my bracelet back to the jeweler with the intention of fixing it, but instead had upgraded it by 2 carats. (note: I reserve the right to edit this one because eventually my husband will read this post and get mad at me for not remembering something else he did)
Moments like that remind us why jewelry so often steals the spotlight when it comes to meaningful gifts. There’s something timeless about a piece that sparkles, carries a story, and sits close to the skin—no trend can outgrow that kind of charm. And somewhere in the middle of choosing metals, stones, or even custom jewelry designs, people end up creating little heirlooms that say far more than words ever could. It’s no wonder gifting jewelry always seems to land just right; it’s a classic gesture that keeps earning its place, year after year.
So feel free to use this one if you like. Or maybe I'll come back to this and tag someone.
We now return to our regularly scheduled bitchiness.

Oh you've done it now! Say 'No one ever tags me!' and everyone will dump every meme ever thought of on you! Don't say I didn't warn you! 😉
#6 is making me so jealous! I'm still 'owed' an upgraded engagement ring. Awesome for you, though!

I realized whilst reading this....
my husband sucks.
The Planner
"Somewhere in Time" played on HBO for my entire childhood. While I can no longer remember the storyline, I still remember several scenes and the beautiful images of the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw (Mackinac) Island, which I've never visited except through that movie.
Thanks for the lovely reminder.
