So remember when, just 10 short days ago, I wrote about how I thought my daughter was going to end up at her Senior Prom in diapers?
That was April 15th, a Thursday. The next afternoon, something just "clicked" in my daughter's head and she decided that she wanted to try using the toilet.
Ten days later, she has had exactly ONE accident, knows when it is time to go and heads to the bathroom herself. The only help she needs from me is wiping.
It's a good thing...because I can't imagine girls in diapers get many invites to the prom (at least, not by people without some SERIOUS problems).
I have been buying diapers every week since May, 2001. I can't believe that my diaper-buying days are finally over!
Is it wrong that I am torn between being ecstatic and wondering why she didn't do this before????

I'm still waiting for that day! My soon to be 5 yr old daughter is still having #2 accidents...daily!

My daughter did the same exact thing. Come to think of it, my son did, too, but he didn't wait so long. I'm a firm believer in not stressing out about it. When kids are ready, they almost train themselves. 🙂
Congratulations!

It's one of those bitter sweet things, I remember when my youngest was done with diapers, at first I was thrilled, for a week afterward I did little dances down the halls in my house! Then it dawned on me that it was the end of a phase I'll never get back, I was a little sad to think I didn't have any "babies" in my house any more...that lasted about a day, and I was back to dancing again! 😉

Congratulations!
What I want to know is why I didn't learn about diaper deals at drug stores until I no longer needed them.

Yay! So happy for you two! We had the same issue here. I thought he was going to end up in first grade wearing those dang pull ups. It took 5 days at pre-school and he was right on track. He had a few accidents at school since september, but I can count them on one hand. And yes, just like you, I think "why the heck couldn't he just do this sooner?" lol

That's awesome---I can't wait until the day I am diaper free. My youngest is just under one year, though, so I think I have some time left....
My oldest had no interest until he was 3 1/4, then he potty trained (day and night) in a couple of days with only a few accidents. I was getting so anxious with him being over 3, but then it took so much less time and effort (no full days at home going every hour, etc.) than my friends who started persisting with younger kids. I once heard, "start potty training at 2, they'll finish at 3. Start potty training at 3, they'll finish at 3." That was my experience, at least.
