    Savings for Sucker Moms

    by Mindi Cherry

"Mooo-oooom!  I wanna go McDonalds!  Have great toys!  Wanna go NOW!"

Who hasn't heard that before?  And if you are like me, you are a sucker for your kid.  You know that you shouldn't "spoil" them, but how can you not when they are the most magnificent creatures on the planet (at least, my kids are!).

Welcome to the wonderful world of being a SuckerMom.  We're just like SoccerMoms, except our kids have more cheapo toys bought on impulse that break within 12.49 minutes!

And then McDonald's or Burger King comes along with a great Kids Meal Toy and your child wants them ALL!  But there are a few problems with that:

    1.  Buying that many Kids Meals just so your child can get a toy can get expensive

    2.  No matter how yummy the fries are, that much fast food just isn't good for you or your kids.

So how do you balance your desire to make your child happy with your desire to not have them thinking of McDonald's as their 2nd dining room?

    Just buy the toys!

Did you know that you can walk in to any McDonald's or Burger King, ask them what toys they currently have in stock, pay anywhere from $1-2 each (depending on the toy) without having to scarf down another (admittedly delicious) french fry and take those toys home to your children?

And while there is the mindset that "for an extra $2 I can just get a whole meal in addition to the toy", it brings us right back to "that much fast food isn't good for you".

So if you are looking to make your kid happy without making him sick to his stomach, this might be a good solution.

(so says the woman who whored herself out at every Burger King in Pennsylvania AND Georgia when they were giving out Pokemon toys)

I did not know that! Luckily, I like eating the nuggets, but this is good to know. I totally would have done this when they had the Cars movie toys. Those were actually some quality toys! The American Idol toys? They couldn't have paid me $2 to take em.

I do that too! I'm not really into the kids meal so I just get my nuggets and salad then buy the toy separately. 🙂

I had to laugh when I saw your picture of the Star Wars toys. My two boys each got a different one this weekend, and they have been fighting ever since over them. Good to know that we could avoid the whole situation by just buying the toys that they each want and avoid all the extra fatty food.
