Cooking With Lawry's – and a Giveaway!

I recently had the opportunity to get together with some of my favorite Philly Bloggers as part of a campaign with Lawry’s. We are participating in a national recipe contest as “Team Philly” and our challenge was to come up with some new recipes for a “Holiday Dinner”. Seeing as it is still summer and we are in the heart of Grilling Season, we decided to design a couples-themed Labor Day party!

The requirements were to come up with an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert. However, since this was also a get together with some of my favorite Philly Bloggers, we decided to go above and beyond and have a little extra fun!

The menu:

Cheesy Baked Artichoke Dip

Pineapple Salsa

Cedar Plank Salmon with Grilled Vegetables

Grilled Corn – see recipe below

Sweet and Spicy Peaches and Strawberries – see recipe below

Lawry’s Sweet and Seasoned Surprise – see recipe below

I have to admit, the thought of creating a dessert and our little “add-on” of a cocktail was a little strange to me. When I think of Lawry’s, “sweet” is not a word that typically comes to mind. I was pleasantly surprised by the Peaches & Strawberries and BLOWN AWAY by our cocktail!

Corn on the Cob

Remove outer layers of corn husks
Soak corn in cold water for 20 minutes
peel back husks and dribble olive oil and shake on Lawry’s seasoned salt
push corn husks back around cob and grill for 20-40 minutes, turning every now and again
remove corn and serve

Sweet and Spicy Strawberries and Peaches

1 lb strawberries
3 fresh local peaches
1 tbsp sugar
½ cup water
1 tbsp Lawry’s Balsamic Vinegar Marinade

cut tops of strawberries and slice peaches into slices
marinade in water, marinade, and sugar
place in foil and grill for 5-6 minutes
serve with vanilla ice cream or greek yogurt

Lawry’s Sweet & Seasoned Surprise

2 oz tequila
2 ½ teaspoon sugar
½ cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1/2 cup frozen peaches
Juice of ½ Lemon

Lawry’s seasoned pepper
Mix above in a blender.
Pour some Seasoned Pepper on a plate
Wet Margarita glass with a lemon and dip in Lawry’s seasoning
Enjoy this salty and sweet drink!

Back To School Giveaway: Pouchie Bags

If you will be packing lunches or snacks for school soon, you may be looking for an eco-friendly way to do so. Pouchie Bags are reusable bags that can be washed and reused over and over again. Pouchie bags are used in place of plastic bags, which reduces the amount of plastic filling up landfills and waterways.

The Sandwich size Pouchie Bags have a pouch on the back which holds a napkin/placemat which can be used instead of having to use paper towels. The can easily be thrown in a lunchbag, diaper bag or even your purse. Use them for snacks, lunches or even as a toiletry bag!

Pouchie Bags are individually crafted in Greenville, SC from 100% cotton fabric for the outside design and a nylon inner lining. Pouchie Bags are BPA free. Cleanup is simple….you can wash them in either the dishwasher or the washing machine. I was sent some of the bags myself and they are high quality and really cute! One of the best parts about Back To School (aside from the fact that I get the house back) is buying the kids new backpacks, lunchbags, etc. I don’t know why, but I just love looking at all the choices!

Scout by Bungalow is a site that offers a full range of great products. From backpacks and gym bags to lunch boxes and laptop totes, you are sure to find something cute, practical and affordable on the site. The company owners have 4 kids and 4 dogs of their own and their on-the-go lifestyle is reflected in their products (meaning they are really durable!).

Scout products are made from water resistant and wipeable materials. They clean up super-easy and seem to be a much better quality than the ones found in the “mass market stores”. The prices range from $16-$45, which is a pretty good price for a high-quality, long-lasting bag.

I received a Michael Angelo’s Gourmet Foods Product Package that included coupons to experience their Italian Entrees. My family loves anything Italian so we were up to the challenge and ready to enjoy tasting their products!

You can find Michael Angelo’s Single Serve and Family Sized Meals at Walmart Stores nationwide priced around $9.49. You can choose from the following six Family Serve: Meat Lasagna, Eggplant Parmesan, Chicken Piccata, Vegetable Lasagna, Shrimp Scampi and Italian-Style Sausage and Meatballs. They all sound very yummy!

We no longer buy many prepared frozen meals for my family because many have additional additives and artificial flavors. I read labels when I grocery shop and will typically buy products that only have real ingredients. I really like that Michael Angelo’s products are able to capture real ingredients into their Entrees without adding additional ingredients that are near impossible to pronounce.

I also love that their entrees are shipped to stores within 36 hours of being made. This eliminates being warehoused in a freezer for who knows how long and giving the product a freezer after taste! And there are no artificial colors, flavors, fillers or chemical preservatives in any of their products. Just check out the ingredients for their Chicken Parmesan!

If you are like me, the kids after school activities and sports (not to mention CCD and just trying to get them to finish their homework) can leave dinner in a time crunch! With running this site, I also find myself facing a quickly-approaching deadline, at a blogger event or traveling. I love knowing that there is an easy dinner in the oven that Brad can just pop in the oven!

Back To School #wingiveaways Giveaway: Snapware!

One of my goals for this fall is to get better organized. This summer has been complete chaos, but Elizabeth starts kindergarten in a few weeks and I am looking forward to the “alone time” to get this house in order. I’ve been reacting to everything, trying to find everything and failing at the majority of it. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I received this Snapware package myself. The products are extremely affordable and my favorite is the cookie and cupcake holder (shown above to the right). It has two-tiers (each holding a dozen) but you can add additional tiers as needed. The inside of the container can carry cupcakes easily thanks to cupcake sized dips.

All of the kitchen boxes are BPA-Free, Dishwasher, Microwave and Freezer Safe.
